BEG 4 | Subject Particle -이/가 vs Object Particle -을/를

KOREAN BASIC SENTENCE STRUCTURE

Subject+은/는 or 이/가 Object을/를 Verb(Adjective)

Subject Particle -이/가

Subject: Who does the action in the verb
C+이 / V+가
⚠️ 저(I, humble) + 가 = 제가
⚠️ 나(I, plain) + 가 = 내가
⚠️ 너(you, plain) + 가 = 네가
‘네가’ is more often pronounce as 니가, to distinguish from 내가

Object Particle -을/를

Object: Who or what the action is being done to, object is not doing anything
C+을 / V+를

엄마가 저를 사랑해요.
Mom loves me.

제 동생이 텔레비전 봐요.
My younger brother/sister watches(is watching) TV.

What happens when I mix -이/가 and -을/를?!

티비를 봐요. “(Someone) watches/is watching TV.”
= 티비(TV)-를(object particle) 봐요(watch).
You can assume someone, the omitted subject, is watching TV because -를 indicates that the TV the object!

티비가 봐요. “TV is watching.”
= 티비(TV)-가(subject particle) + watches.
= Since -가 marks TV as the subject, the sentence means “TV is watching.” 📛😱 CREEPY!!!
I don’t want my TV to watch me! 🙄

Another example when you mix 을/를 with the other 2 particles!

저는 이민호 좋아해요.
As for me, (I) like Lee Minho.
– 이민호 is marked as the object of the sentence.

저는 이민호 좋아해요.
As for me, Lee Minho likes (me?!?!). = You wish!!! 🤣
– 이민호 is marked as the subject who is the one that likes… then who’s the object?!
