BEG 5 | Location-에 vs -에서

location + 에:

“To” a location:
action ends at that location with no new action beginning from that location

Followed by directional and existential verbs:
-에 가다 to go to-
-에 오다 to come to-
-에 다니다 to attend to-
-에 있다: to be at-
-에 없다: to not be at-

location + 에서:


“From” – A new action starts from that moment someone is at that location
Used with other action verbs

Examples:

학교에 가다 to go go school
학교에 있다 to be at school
학교에서 공부하다 to study at school

커피숍에 오다 to come to a coffeeshop
커피숍에서 친구를 만나다 to meet with a friend at a coffeeshop
커피숍에서 책을 읽다 to read a book at a coffeeshop

쇼핑몰에 가다 to go to a shopping mall
쇼핑몰에 있다 to be at a shopping mall
쇼핑몰에서 쇼핑하다 to shop at a shopping mall

살다(to live):

살다 is used with both 에 and 에서
