6. How to Introduce Your Name

1. 저는 ____입니다 / 이에요(예요). “I am ____.”

저 I (humble)
-는 topic particle: introducing something
입니다 am/are/is (most formal)
이에요, 예요 am/are/is (casually polite)
If your name ends with a consonant: 이에요.
재림이에요. (am/are/is Jaerim.)
에릭이에요. (am/are/is Eric.)
최웅이에요. (am/are/is Choi Ung.)
If your name ends with a vowel: 예요.
미나예요. (am/are/is Mina.)
크리스예요. (am/are/is Chris.)
TIP: In Korean, it ends with the vowel ㅡ because
consonants or vowels cannot stand alone in syllables.
Instead of 크리ㅅ, it’s 크리스.

국연수예요. (am/are/is Kook Yeon-su.)

3. 저는 (제 이름은) ____(이)라고 합니다 / 해요. = I am (My name is) called _____.

THIS IS MORE ADVANCED, SO IF IT’S TOO DIFFICULT, IGNORE THIS FOR NOW.

Start with either 저는(I) or 제 이름은(my name).
N(이)라고 하다: this is quoting in Korean = “(someone) says it is N”
– “I am called…”
