INT 5 | ~(으)ㄴ데/는데 Part 2

It can also be used at the end of the sentence, not in the middle of a sentence as a connective ending. When it comes at the end of the sentence, it serves multiple purposes and meanings.

Watch the part 1 first: INT 4 | “But” ~(으)ㄴ데/는데 Part 1

1. Disagreeing

(There’s no problem/matter.)
B: 일 있는데? (But there is something!)

(You’ve never been in a relationship, right?)
B: 아닌데? (But you’re wrong! I have, though!)

2. Expressing Surprise

(You taste food and it tastes surprisingly delicious) 오!

3. Showing hesitance
(rejecting, giving answers listener won’t be happy with)

A: 내일 쇼핑 가자. (Let’s go shopping tomorrow.)
(But I don’t have time tomorrow…)

(Is there my phone on the table?)
B: 없는데? (I don’t see it though…)

4. Wh- Questions word + ~데? : Curiosity

But what is this? (emphasizing the curiosity)
But when is the exam? (emphasizing the curiosity)

5. Storytelling : telling the background

Yesterday I went to a coffeeshop (BUT that’s not what I wanted to say), I met my friend there. So we went to dinner together.

6. Telling the background for your suggestion

The weather outside is cold (but that’s not the main thing), put on a coat.
