BEG 20 | ~(으)ㄹ까요? Asking opinions

MEANING

  1. Always a question: ~까 is a question ending
  2. Asks the listener’s opinion: you can ask yourself too!
    • “Do you think…?
    • “What/who/when… do you think?”
    • Shall we…?
    • Shall I…?

CONJUGATION

Look at the end of a verb or adjective stem before the dictionary ending ~다.
If it ends with:

Consonant ~을까? [polite: 을까요?]
먹다 to eat 먹을까(요)?
[ex] 뭐 먹을까? What shall we eat? What do you think we should eat?
좋다 to be good 좋을까(요)?
[ex] 엄마 선물로 뭐가 좋을까? What do you think will be good for mom’s gift?
앉다 to sit 앉을까(요)?
[ex] 우리 잠깐 앉을까요? Shall we sit for a minute?
있다 to exist, stay 있을까(요)?
[ex] 걔 지금 어디 있을까? Where do you think s/he (that kid) is?

Vowel ~ㄹ까? [polite: ㄹ까요?]
하다 to do 할까(요)?
[ex] 내일 뭐 할까요? What shall we do tomorrow? What do you think?
가다 to go 갈까(요)?
[ex] 주말에 쇼핑몰 갈까? Shall we go to a shopping mall on the weekend?
보다 to watch, look 볼까(요)?
[ex] 같이 영화 볼까? Shall we watch a movie?
주다 to give 줄까(요)?
[ex] 커피 줄까? Shall I give you coffee? (only use to friends)

ㄹ ~까?
살다 to live 살까(요)?
[ex] 자기야, 우리 한국에서 살까? Honey, shall we live in Korea?

ㅂ -> 우+ㄹ까?
덥다 to be hot 더울까(요)?
[ex] 오늘 밖에 많이 더울까? Do you think it’s really hot outside today?
춥다 to be cold 추울까(요)?
[ex] 오늘 밖에 추울까요? Do you think it’s cold outside today?
귀엽다 to be cute 귀여울까(요)?
[ex] 우리 딸은 왜 이렇게 귀여울까? Awww, why is my daughter this cute?
