~어/아서: neutral reason and result
- Comes from 그래서 (so, therefore) : A so B
- Reason~어/아서 result: neutral and factual
- Only used in statements: cannot be used in suggestions and commands
- Tenseless: Even when talking about the past, it’s just ~어/아서
CONJUGATION
- Conjugation is the same as ~아/어(요) ending
- Bright vowels (ㅗ,ㅏ): 아서
- 좋다 to be nice: 좋아서
- 많다 to be much, many: 많아서
- Other vowels: 어서
- 먹다 to eat: 먹어서
- 있다 to exist: 있어서
- If stem does not have 받침, vowels contract
- 오다 to come: 오 + 아서 = 와서
- 주다 to give: 주 + 어서 = 줘서
- 마시다 to drink: 마시 + 어서 = 마셔서
- ㅂ becomes 우
- 춥다 to be cold: 추우 + 어서 = 추워서
- 맵다 to be spicy: 매우 + 어서 = 매워서
- ㅡ becomes ㅓ or ㅏ depending on the preceding vowel
- 크다 to be big: 커서
- 나쁘다 to be bad: 나빠서
- 르 becomes 러 or 라 and another ㄹ is added in the preceding syllable
- 배부르다 to be full: 배불러서
- 다르다 to be different: 달라서
- Noun+이다 to be : N(이)라서
- Bright vowels (ㅗ,ㅏ): 아서
EXAMPLES
한국 음식은 맛있어요. 그래서 자주 먹어요.
= 한국 음식은 맛있어서 자주 먹어요.
오늘 날씨가 좋아요. 그래서 놀러 갈 거예요.
= 오늘 날씨가 좋아서 놀러 갈 거예요.
어제 추웠어요. 그래서 집에 있었어요.
= 어제 추워서 집에 있었어요.
저는 학생이에요. 그래서 돈이 없어요.
= 저는 학생이라서 돈이 없어요.

~(으)니까: subjective reasoning
- Comes from 그러니까 (that is why, because)
- Subjective reasoning: does NOT have to be the factual, actual reason = “I think this is why”
- Used in suggestions and commands
- Can be used with past tense suffix: ~았/었/ㅆ~ + 으니까, but usually used tenseless
CONJUGATION
C + 으니까
좋다 to be nice : 좋으니까
많다 to be many, much : 많으니까
V + 니까
가다 to go : 가니까
예쁘다 to be pretty : 예쁘니까
ㄹ : ㄹ drops
살다 to live : 사니까
알다 to know : 아니까
ㅂ : becomes 우 + 니까
덥다 to be hot : 더우니까
눕다 to lie down : 누우니까
